Tre Richardson, the former Vanderbilt football wide receiver, has found a new home outside the SEC.

Richardson committed to Louisville on Jan. 9, he announced via social media.

In 2025, Richardson made 46 catches for 806 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed 11 times for 62 yards. He led the Commodores in receiving yards and was tied for first in receiving touchdowns. He finished the season with 100-yard receiving games in three of his final four games, including in the ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Iowa.

In a social media message, Richardson said he had to do what was best for himself and his son in leaving Vanderbilt who finished the 2025 season 10-3.

What Vanderbilt's wide receiver depth chart looks like without Tre Richardson

Junior Sherrill is Vanderbilt's only returning wide receiver who saw significant time in 2025. He figures to see more in 2026 after catching 54 passes for 784 yards and seven touchdowns.

Beyond him, the next-most used wide receiver who is currently slated to return is Tristen Brown, who caught 10 passes for 137 yards. Speedster Kayleb Barnett is also returning, but he is more of a gadget player who was used as often on jet sweeps as true pass plays.

Redshirt freshman Lebron Hill and true freshman Owen Cabell, who flipped to Vanderbilt from Alabama during the early singing period, could also contribute.

However, it seems likely that the Commodores will need to pull multiple receivers from the transfer portal. So far, no transfer receivers have committed to Vanderbilt.
