Mississippi football lost starting quarterback Trinidad Chambliss just before halftime of its first-round College Football Playoff game against Tulane on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Chambliss was tended to by members of Mississippi’s medical staff for several minutes after going down to the ground at the conclusion of an 11-yard quarterback scrambler. He walked off the field on his own power and was replaced by Austin Simmons.

Ole Miss coach Pete Golding told ESPN’s Katie George on the TNT broadcast that he has not received an update on Chambliss and will get one during halftime at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi.

It was the second key injury of the series for the Rebels, as they lost running back Kewan Lacy the previous play with an apparent shoulder injury. Before his injury, Chambliss completed 13-of-16 passes for 167 yards in the first half. He scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown on Ole Miss‘ second drive of the afternoon.

Ole Miss currently leads Tulane 17-3 at halftime. If the Rebels can hold onto their lead and come out with the win, it will mark the first CFP win in program history and will send Ole Miss to the Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 1 against No. 3 Georgia in the CFP quarterfinals.

Following a quarterback keeper on first-and-10, Chambliss exited Ole Miss’ CFP first-round game against Tulane with an apparent injury with 43 seconds remaining in the first half.

Chambliss exited the game on his own power after being tended to by members on the field. TNT’s cameras caught Chambliss sitting on the Ole Miss sideline with an iPad in his hand, presumedly looking at film, before halftime.
