After a 14-yard scramble, Troy football quarterback Goose Crowder appeared to be shaken up after being met by a host of Jacksonville State defenders in the first quarter of the Salute to Veterans Bowl game on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
After getting up from the turf, Crowder went to the sideline and backup QB Tucker Kilcrease entered to finish off Troy’s second drive that ended in a turnover on downs after a failed pass attempt by Kilcrease. Crowder returned to the field on the first drive for the Trojans in the second quarter.
Kilcrease failed to mount any scoring drives in the absence of Crowder, but the Trojan starting quarterback led the first scoring drive for Troy’s offense that resulted in a 38-yard field goal by Scott Taylor Renfroe.
After leading the Trojans to its first offensive points, Kilcrease was back on the field for Troy and led the offense down the field for Renfroe’s second field goal. It wasn’t clear why Crowder wasn’t on the field.
On the 2025 season, Crowder has completed 112 of 190 passes for 1,314 yards and 11 touchdowns, while rushing for 10 yards and two touchdowns.
Kilcrease isn’t a stranger to the field in 2025, throwing for 1,421 yards and nine interceptions in his time filling in for Crowder after an injury earlier in the season sidelined Crowder.
