Despite winning the American Conference Championship and making an appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2025, the Tulane Green Wave has not received much hype heading into the season.
The Preseason AP Top 25 Poll was released on Monday, with Tulane only earning a single vote. While there was no expectation that the team would be ranked high after undergoing a head coaching change and major roster adjustments in the offseason, it is a bit surprising that the team didn't garner at least a little bit more attention.
However, should the Green Wave put much stock into this? Even the reigning national champions couldn't crack the top five, while other teams that didn't even reach the CFP earned major nods.
Here's a look at the complete preseason AP Poll.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
2. Oregon Ducks
3. Georgia Bulldogs
4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
5. Texas Longhorns
6. Indiana Hoosiers
7. Miami Hurricanes
8. Texas A&M Aggies
9. Ole Miss Rebels
10. Oklahoma Sooners
11. LSU Tigers
12. Texas Tech Red Raiders
13. Alabama Crimson Tide
14. BYU Cougars
15. USC Trojans
16. Michigan Wolverines
17. Washington Huskies
18. Penn State Nittany Lions
19. SMU Mustangs
20. Tennessee Volunteers
21. Utah Utes
22. Iowa Hawkeyes
23. Houston Cougars
23. Louisville Cardinals
25. Missouri Tigers
Others receiving votes: Clemson Tigers (112), Florida Gators (51), Boise State Broncos (43), Arizona Wildcats (32), TCU Horned Frogs (11), Navy Midshipmen (10), South Carolina Gamecocks (10), Illinois Fighting Illini (9), Oklahoma State Cowboys (8), Vanderbilt Commodores (8), Pittsburgh Panthers (7), Virginia Tech Hokies (6), Minnesota Golden Gophers (5), UNLV Rebels (4), New Mexico Lobos (4), Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4), James Madison Dukes (3), Auburn Tigers (3), Memphis Tigers (2), California Golden Bears (2), Liberty Flames (1), Western Michigan Broncos (1), Tulane Green Wave (1), Virginia Cavaliers (1)
Navy led all American Conference teams with 10 votes, and Memphis and Tulane were the only two other representatives from the league. Meanwhile, note that Florida, Oklahoma State and Auburn have all received multiple votes after bringing in strong coaches from the American in the offseason.
While the Olive Green and Sky Blue will probably experience some growing pains that come with having a new head coach and several new positions players — including an undetermined starting quarterback — it looks like it has been far too easy to forget the success the program has had over the past few years with a variety of different players and coaches.
If anything, this is some extra motivation for the Green Wave ahead of the season. They'll look to use it in a big way as they open the season against the Duke Blue Devils on September 5th.
