UCF vs BYU Prediction: Cougars and Knights Playing For Their Seasons
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
To cut to the chase, BYU is in the Big 12 Championship if it beats UCF. If it loses, then there’s a slight problem, but not to get into it too much, but it’s still probably in the title game.
Okay, to get into it, Kansas would have to beat Utah, and Arizona State would have to beat Arizona, but as long as BYU takes care of business in Provo, it’s okay.
More importantly to the Cougars, they want to get to the College Football Playoff. There’s nothing official about this, but just assume that if they win this and beat 11-1 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship, they’ll be in the CFP.
And if they go 11-1 and lose the Big 12 Championship, they have a shot to get in if Alabama, Notre Dame, or Oklahoma slips up this weekend.
Meanwhile, UCF is playing for its season. Win, and it gets to six wins and a bowl game in the first year back under Scott Frost.

Why UCF Will Win
The Knights have to make this an ugly, low-scoring fight. They don’t have the offensive explosion to keep up if BYU gets going early, but the ability is there to hang around
The pass rush has to bother Bear Bachmeier early – he can’t get comfortable – and the run defense has to avoid getting gashed.
UCF doesn’t have a problem grinding things down. It’s good in the time of possession battle, but BYU dominates the clock with the running game, and the defense is outstanding on third downs.
Texas Tech and Kansas State were able to rip up the Knights, but for the post part, they’ve been able to keep everyone’s ground attack in check. However …
Why BYU Will Win
The Cougars have the offensive balance to keep things moving however they need to.
Everything works in sync. Bachmeier and the passing game don’t take any real chances, mainly because there’s no need to. The ground attack that averages over five yards per pop takes all the pressure off of everything else.
UCF was able to keep up a bit in the loss to Houston, but it couldn’t do anything to right in the 30-3 loss to Baylor, and Texas Tech didn’t allow any of the Knights’ short-range passes to go anywhere. So …
UCF vs BYU Prediction, Betting Lines
All BYU needs to do is score.
UCF doesn’t have enough offensive consistency to keep up with how the Cougars roll, and again, they don’t have the ability to go on big runs if the defense starts to hold up.
Some teams fold under the pressure. BYU will be jacked from the start. It’ll score on its first two drives and methodically bleed the clock dry from there.
