UCF's Scott Frost Wants To Build National Recruiting Base

There was a time when programs like the UCF Knights had to rely strictly on third- or fourth-tier players from the state of Florida.
That was before the college football landscape changed with the presence of NIL deals. At Big 12 Media Day last week, Knights coach Scott Frost was asked about how he felt about recruiting in Texas. His father, Larry, was a high successfully high school in Texas, thus the reason for the question.
"Yeah, I went to second through fifth grade in Palestine in East Texas near Tyler," Frost said. "Dad had a really special player, remember, named Ivory Lee Brown that was like my hero. Ivory was [former NFL running back] Adrian Peterson's uncle, I believe. So, it was a great experience for me to to be down here. I certainly know the type of talent that exists in Florida and the the type of talent that exists in Texas."
But Frost doesn't feel like recruiting talent-rich areas like Texas as the main goal. Nowadays, the Knights are in position to recruit just about everywhere, especially with players now more in control of where they land. They can pick and choose the right situation for them because they no longer have sit out a year when transferring.
So goal for Frost is simply to recruit talented players no matter where they are from.
"Recruiting's different now," Frost said. "I think more than ever kids are willing to go anywhere. It's hard to cast your net so wide that you look in under every rock and every corner for for players. But we're going to be willing to go in anywhere in the country, including Texas, to get players. And I know Orlando is really awesome place and kids are going to want to be there. So, I think we'll have success when we do venture out of the state."
