It is a Top 25 matchup in the Big Ten on Saturday as UCLA and Oregon square off. It is time to continue the NCAA Football odds series with a UCLA-Oregon prediction and pick.

The Bruins come into the game at a perfect 4-0. After defeating rival Cal on the opening week, UCLA rattled off wins over San Diego State and Purdue in back-to-back weeks. In their last game, UCLA traveled across the nation to face Maryland on the road. They opened the game as a 2.5-point favorite over Maryland. The Bruins would cover with ease. After a scoreless first quarter, UCLA scored three touchdowns in the second quarter, building a 20-3 lead. The second half was more of the game. The Bruins put up 14 points in the third and another 20 in the fourth. UCLA took a 54-3 victory over Maryland. The Bruins were off last week.

Meanwhile, Oregon is 3-1 on the year. They opened the year with a close victory. Facing Boise State, the two teams were tied in the fourth quarter. With under eight minutes left in the game, Dante Moore found Dakorien Moore on a 62-yard touchdown pass that would decide the game as the Ducks won 34-27. The next week, Oregon would visit Oklahoma State. It was a back-and-forth contest that came down to the fourth quarter. Evan Stewart brought in a 39-yard touchdown from Moore to give Oregon the one-point lead as the fourth quarter opened. Drew Mestermaker anwered wth a touchdown run later, and Oklahoma State added a field goal in the 39-31 upset of Oregon. The Ducks would rebound, though. They beat Portland State 84-0 and then defeated USC 41-27. In the USC game, Dante Moore was hit late and suffered a concussion, leading to Dylan Raiola starting this week. Like UCLA, Oregon was off last week.

Keys to UCLA vs. Oregon matchup

For UCLA, it starts with establishing the run. On the road in a hostile environment against a team that can score well, ball possession will be huge for the Bruins. The UCLA offense is fourth in the nation in points per game and tenth in yards per game. Much of that is through the running game. The team is first in the nation in yards per rush attempt and second in total rushing yards per game. Wayne Knight has been a beast this year. He has run for 445 yards on 49 carries. That is good for 9.1 yards per carry. He has also scored nine times. Meanwhile, Anthony Woods has run for 269 yards and four touchdowns this year.r Further, Nico Iamaleava, the quarterback, has run for another 143 yards and three scores.

Meanwhile, the defense has to get pressure on Dylan Raiola. With Dante Moore out, Raiola will be making the start. He has struggled with turnovers in his career. Raiola has been intercepted 17 times in 24 games. Further, many of those interceptions have come under pressure. UCLA is number two in the nation in takeaways per game, with three per contest. This is led by Ta’Shawn James. James has one pass breakup, three interceptions, and a touchdown this year. If UCLA can win the turnover battle, which they have done all year, they will have a chance in this game.

For Oregon, Raiola has to exploit UCLA’s pass defense. The Bruins are 70th in the nation in opponent yards per game through the air.  Raiola has looked good this year so far. He has completed 30 of 36 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns. Still, some of that was against Portland State, while the rest was against USC, both times in relief of Moore. This will be his first start since November of last year for Nebraska. The big play threat of Jeremiah McClellan is out in this game, but the team has Evan Stewart and Dakorien Moore. Stewart has brought in 22 receptions for 278 yards and three scores, while Moore has 14 receptions for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, the Ducks need to make UCLA one-dimensional. Oregon has a great defensive line, which is led by A’Mauri Washington. Oregon has been solid against the run but not great. They are 66th in the nation in opponent rushing yards per game, at 150 yards per game. Still, Oregon can get in the backfield, with 13 tackles for a loss already this year. The Pass offense has not been great this year for UCLA, and if the Bruins are forced into long third-down situations, it will be huge for the field position game.

UCLA vs. Oregon Prediction and Pick

UCLA has been dominant on the ground, and also in the turnover game. They come in rested and with a healthy offensive line. They have been great at keeping control of the ball and making short third-down conversions. The Bruins are going to be able to control the clock and should be able to find the end zone plenty. Still, the pass defense is very suspect. While Dylan Raiola can make some bad plays, he can also make some big ones. The negative of Raiola will keep this game tight, but the positive will make the game high-scoring. Oregon is going to win the game, but UCLA can cover this spread in a high-scoring contest.

Final UCLA vs. Oregon Prediction and Pick:  UCLA +11.5 (-110) and Over 58.5 (-115)
