UNC football hit with recruiting violation from 2025

The North Carolina Tar Heels return to the football field on Saturday after a big Week 0 win over TCU. The Week 2 matchup against East Tennessee State will mark the home opener for UNC as they look to go 2-0 this year.

While the focus is on the game, this is usually an opportunity for recruiting visits this Fall as teams can get players on campus for visits. However, on Saturday, there will be no visitors on UNC's campus.

Inside Carolina is reporting that UNC will not be hosting any recruits for unofficial visits on Saturday as a penalty for past recruiting violations. These violations occurred at home games last season. They are also reporting that this is not tied to the current investigation going on with the program.

Inside Carolina’s Don Callahan confirmed on Tuesday that UNC would not be hosting recruits on Saturday, which is highly unusual as recruits on unofficial visits are always a part of home games. Those recruits usually have conversations with the staff upon arrival, are on the sidelines during warmups and watch the games from their seats. Many recruits are scheduled to attend UNC’s other home games this season.

This comes just a week after general manager Michael Lombardi resigned after being on a leave. A report from WRAL stated there were other issues inside the program that has led to the investigation.

UNC has not commented on this yet and head coach Bill Belichick didn't offer anything on the current investigation when he met the media on Monday.
