The North Carolina Tar Heels have an impressive 2026 recruiting class already, the first full class under Bill Belichick. But now, the focus is shifting to the 2027 class and on Tuesday, the Tar Heels made a big splash.

North Carolina landed a commitment from one of the top in-state recruits as four-star safety Marquis Bryant pledged his verbal commitment to the program. Bryant picked North Carolina over a final six that included Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Tennessee.

The talented safety had a total of 32 offers in his recruitment but in the end, staying close to home was the best decision for him.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Bryant was on UNC's campus a lot in his recruitment. It was then that UNC was able to pull ahead and eventually land him.

Bryant is ranked No. 176 nationally, the No. 20 safety and the No. 8 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. He becomes the second commit for UNC in the 2027 class, joining Skylar Robinson.
