The North Carolina Tar Heels' football program is hoping that things will be better here in 2026 after a disaster of a season in 2025. In the first year under Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels went 4-8 and 2-6 in conference play.
With an offseason of additions and subtractions for the roster, it will be a different team. But on Friday, the Tar Heels lost a potential key piece to the offense.
After transferring to North Carolina, quarterback Taron Dickens has officially decommitted from the program. He spent the past few months, including spring practice, with the Tar Heels. However, he has made the decision to leave, likely due to his spot on the depth chart.

Dickens had a big year at Western Carolina in 2025, throwing for 3,508 yards, 38 touchdowns and 2 interceptions for the Catamounts. However, as the Tar Heels' practices went on, former Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards emerged as the quarterback on top of the depth chart.
North Carolina still has some depth at the quarterback position despite the departure of Dickens. But it's always good to have options.
