CHAPEL HILL — Bill Belichick and UNC football are onto 2026, starting with the early signing period for high school recruits in December.
Following a 4-8 season in Belichick’s debut year with the Tar Heels, the 73-year-old coach and general manager Michael Lombardi will turn their attention to building a roster for next season.
After welcoming 70 newcomers to his debut roster, which included a mix of returners, freshmen and additions via the transfer portal, Belichick figures to have another revamped group of new faces to join a full 2026 recruiting class.
Belichick and Lombardi will speak with media members at 5 p.m. on Dec. 3 inside the Kenan Football Center, addressing questions about the newest players set to join the Tar Heels.
Here’s a breakdown of UNC football’s 2026 recruiting class, including rankings, targets and signings on the first day of the early period.
UNC football recruiting targets
Wide receiver Kei’Maurii Miles, Wide receiver O’Mari Johnson, junior college cornerback Asaad Chapman, offensive lineman Da’Ron Parks and defensive lineman Joseph Peko are among the Tar Heels’ top targets entering the early signing period.

Here are the team recruiting rankings for the Tar Heels as of Dec. 3.
247Sports Composite: No. 17 nationally, No. 3 ACC
On3: No. 17 nationally, No. 4 ACC
ESPN: No. 14 nationally
When is early signing day?
The early signing period occurs in December, starting Dec. 3 and running through Dec. 5.
When is late signing day?
Following the December signing period, prospects have to wait until national signing day on Feb. 4, 2026.
