Former Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer didn’t mince words when addressing the latest round of speculation linking Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer to the Michigan job.
In short, Meyer says the rumors don’t hold water, at all.
Speaking on The Triple Option, Meyer made it clear there is “ZERO” chance DeBoer is leaving Tuscaloosa for Ann Arbor.
“No chance,” Meyer said of DeBoer's intentions on The Triple Option. “He is in Alabama. You don’t leave Alabama and go anywhere. No, there is no chance. He got a good infrastructure [in Alabama]. You know, Biff Poggi came out and said Michigan is a ‘malfunctioning organization.’ That job is iffy.”
For a coach who knows both the Big Ten and SEC landscapes as well as anyone, Meyer’s assessment carries significant weight. Alabama is not just another job — it is the standard of the sport. The Crimson Tide offer unmatched resources, elite recruiting pipelines, administrative stability, and a championship-level expectation that very few programs can replicate.
Meyer doubled down on his stance by questioning Michigan’s long-term stability, echoing comments that have circulated within coaching circles.
“It has been a malfunctioning organization over the last five years,” Meyer said.
And he is not wrong.
That contrast is at the heart of Meyer’s argument. While Michigan has faced uncertainty, scrutiny, and turnover, Alabama remains one of the most structurally sound programs in college football.
DeBoer, who took over following Nick Saban’s retirement, inherited a roster, culture, and infrastructure built for sustained success, not rebuilding.
Since arriving in Tuscaloosa, DeBoer has focused on continuity rather than disruption, keeping Alabama firmly planted among the nation’s elite.
Those close to the program have repeatedly dismissed outside noise, and Meyer’s comments only reinforce what many around college football already believe.
Speculation is inevitable whenever a high-profile job opens, especially when it involves a coach at a powerhouse program.
But Meyer’s blunt assessment leaves little room for debate.
From his perspective, this isn’t a conversation worth having.
Alabama isn’t a stepping stone, it’s a destination.
And according to Urban Meyer, Kalen DeBoer knows exactly where he belongs.
