The Sherrone Moore situation came as a shock to just about everyone in the sports world and the reactions have been wide-ranging. For longtime Michigan football nemesis Urban Meyer, it called for prayer, not gloating.
On the latest episode of The Triple Option podcast, Meyer lamented the entire situation and thought about Moore's three daughters along with where Moore was in life just a few weeks prior. Meyer said that he hopes things improve for Moore's family if nothing else.
“Yeah, last night I said a prayer for that family,” Meyer said. “I mean, you got three little girls, you got a guy that was on top of the road a week ago. You know, they find a way, they’re up 6-0 on the Buckeyes at home, and then also you wake up and they’re in this situation. Yeah, rivalries aside, this is all human element. Now, this is something that, from what you read, that’s some serious stuff that went on. And I just all of a sudden, you start seeing the impact. Forget football. Who cares about football?
“I care about those three, you know, his family. So prayers are with them. Hopefully this thing somehow gets cleaner and better, which I don’t know how it will for a while, but you just care about that family.”
A promising future forever altered
In two full seasons as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Moore went 15-8, featuring a stellar finish to the 2024 season (wins over Ohio State and Alabama in back-to-back games) and a 9-2 start to the 2025 season that saw the team qualify for the Citrus Bowl.
And while those marks may not have been impressive enough for Michigan fans, there was every reason to believe that the 39-year-old head coach would be a mainstay in college football for a very long time.
But then the events of this week occurred. Moore was fired for cause, followed by the subsequent revelations that he had been engaged in a relationship with a staffer, which then snowballed into the events that got Moore arrested and charged with several serious crimes.
At this point, Moore needs to be focused far more on ensuring he stays out of prison than any future in football.
