Many of the states in the southwest got to watch on last week as a majority of the country kicked off their 2026 high school football seasons.
That changes this week as states like Texas and Oklahoma get going and several massive matchups headline the slate of games for each of those states.
Given there weren't many teams in the southwest that played last week, there won't be many changes in this week's USA TODAY Sports Southwest Region Super 15 rankings.
With that in mind, here are the top 15 teams in the southwest as the region kicks off the 2026 season.
1. Waxahachie (TX)
Record: 0-0
Waxahachie had a memorable 2025 run, going 12-2 but had its season come to an end in the state quarterfinals, losing an instant-classic to Duncanville 35-27. Five-star Texas A&M safety commit JayQuan Snell leads the defense into the new year and Jerry Meyer is back at quarterback.

2. Duncanville (TX)
Record: 0-0
The 2025 season was another great year for the Panthers as they went 12-2 and once again made a state championship appearance. This time they would come up short though losing to North Shore 10-7 in the UIL Class 6A Division I championship.

3. Southlake Carroll (TX)
Record: 0-0
The Dragons were by far one of the best programs in the Lone Star State last season as they rolled through the regular season and made it to the state semifinals before losing DeSoto in a 57-44 shootout. They'll be breaking in a new starting quarterback following the graduation of long-time starter Angelo Renda.

4. DeSoto (TX)
Record: 0-0
The reigning UIL Class 6A Division II state champions should be just as good if not better entering the 2026 season, but they kick off their season with one of the hardest road games any team will play this year. Texas Tech four-star running back commit SaRod Baker had a monster junior year rushing for 3,206 yards and 46 touchdowns.

5. Bixby (OK)
Record: 0-0
Oklahoma's premier program over the last decade continued its dominant run last season, beating Owasso 31-17 for the program's eighth consecutive Class 8A state championship. Moving up to the state's highest classification in 2022 hasn't fazed the Spartans as they've won the last four championships in the class.

6. North Shore (Houston, TX)
Record: 0-0
The Mustangs faced some adversity with losses to South Oak Cliff and Summer Creek but once they got to the postseason, they were unbeatable, ultimately beating Duncanville for the UIL Class 6A Division I championship. Replacing quarterback Kaleb Maryland (3,266 yards, 34 touchdowns) and running back Hezekiah Johnson (1,132 yards, 19 touchdowns) will be their biggest challenge this season.

7. South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX)
Record: 0-0
The Golden Bears suffered just one loss last season, losing to Duncanville by a touchdown in the second week of the year. They rebounded well, winning 14 straight games, including the UIL Class 5A Division II state championship over Randle by a score of 35-19.

8. Allen (TX)
Record: 0-0
After splitting time with Jeremiah Daoud last season, rising 2029 quarterback Ty Snell will get to fully run the show this season for the Eagles. As a freshman, Snell completed 68% of his passes for 1,030 yards and 10 touchdowns.

9. North Crowley (Fort Worth, TX)
Record: 0-0
The Panthers' defense was supposed to have a massive addition in five-star cornerback John Meredith III but he was ruled ineligible and after that ruling was upheld, he reclassified early and enrolled at Texas over the summer. Even without Meredith, the Panthers return enough to once again be considered a contender.

10. Dickinson (TX)
Record: 0-0
The Gators had a memorable 2025, finishing the season 13-1 with their only loss coming to an eventual state champion in North Shore. They return several key starters from that group including running back Tavin Gomez.

11. Summer Creek (Houston, TX)
Record: 0-0
The Bulldogs return one of Texas' most prolific offenses in 2026 following a 12-2 season last year. Key to their success will be senior quarterback Noah Spinks (3,690 yards, 43 touchdowns) getting the ball consistently to his top guy in Texas Tech four-star receiver commit Benny Easter Jr. (1,309 yards, 19 touchdowns).

12. Randle (Richmond, TX)
Record: 0-0
The Lions finished the 2025 season with a 15-1 record and as the UIL Class 5A Division II State runner-up. They'll once again be led by one of the nation's best running backs in five-star Landen Williams-Callis.
Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, at South Oak Cliff (TX), 7 p.m. CT
13. Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, CO)
Record: 1-0
Cherry Creek's winning streak has now hit 28 games following a 28-15 win over Chatfield (CO). However, that win did not come easy as the Bruins trailed after three quarters but scored twice in the fourth to secure the win.
Next Game: Friday, Sept. 4, vs. Ralston Valley (CO), 7 p.m. MT
14. Carl Albert (Midwest City, OK)
Record: 0-0
The Titans capped off their fourth straight state championship run last season, going 14-0 and beating Bishop McGuinness 48-7 for the Class 5A championship.
Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. Newcastle (OK), 7 p.m. CT
15. Valor Christian (Littleton, CO)
Record: 1-0
The Eagles kicked off their 2026 season at home with an impressive 38-22 win over Kinkaid (TX). Junior quarterback Titus Huard would not be denied in the win completing 72% of his passes for 286 touchdowns and a touchdown.
