The University of Southern California is reportedly hiring a Director of AI to join football coach Lincoln Riley's staff, per USA Today's John Brice.

The technological world is changing, and the Trojans would be hiring a "first-of-its-kind position to their football staff."

USC is expected to name Conor McQuiston to the position, specifically as the director of artificial intelligence for college football.

McQuiston, who has a history of working with analytics in both college football and the NFL, is expected to report directly to USC general manager Chad Bowden.

The exact parameters of the role and whether it will be focused on recruiting or game management are unknown at this time.

The university itself received a $200 million gift toward AI research and utilization from Mark Stevens, a USC alum and a minority owner of the Golden State Warriors.

Riley is heading into his fifth season at USC. So far, he has a 35-18 record and has gone 2-2 in bowl games. His best season was his first in 2022, when he and now-Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams went 11-3.

The Trojans went 8-5 in 2023 in the last year of the old Pac-12 before moving to the Big Ten ahead of the 2024 season. USC has gone 7-6 and 9-5 in its two seasons in the conference.

McQuiston's official hire is expected to be announced later on Wednesday.
