Saturday’s football game against Washington will mark Homecoming at USC. Ironically, it will also be a homecoming of sorts for a member of the Huskies’ coaching staff.

Washington’s safeties coach is a name that should be very familiar to USC fans. Who is it, you ask? Why, none other than legendary Trojans safety Taylor Mays.

Mays had one of the most decorated careers of any player to ever suit up for the Trojans. A four-year starter at safety, he was named a first-team All-American in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Known for his hard hits, Mays finished his time in Cardinal and Gold with 276 total tackles, nine passes defended, five interceptions, and a forced fumble.

Since the conclusion of his NFL career, Mays has gotten into coaching. He served as a defensive analyst on Lincoln Riley’s USC staff from 2022-2024, before being named the safeties coach at Washington ahead of the 2025 season.

Now, Mays is set to return to the Coliseum as a visitor for the first time. While USC fans still have plenty of love for the legendary safety, they are certainly hoping to see the Trojans’ passing game carve up his secondary on Saturday.
