USC Loses Breakout Star Trent Mosley for Big Ten Opener in Offensive Blow

USC football sensation Trent Mosley, who had been generating some possible Heisman buzz, is missing the Big Ten opener against Rutgers.
Mosley has an undisclosed injury, head coach Lincoln Riley said, and described his timeline as “inconclusive” for the pass catcher’s return.
“We’ll just continue monitoring it,” Riley said. “Don’t expect it to be extremely long term, but still a little inconclusive at this time, depending on how he responds.”
In the third quarter of USC vs. Louisiana on Saturday, Mosley was seen favoring his right knee on the broadcast.
Why is Trent Mosley so important?
Mosley leads the team with 255 receiving yards and four touchdowns through three games. He has been highly effective in contested catches, yards after the catch, and special teams.
As a freshman, Mosley has been USC’s most impactful player, stepping into the shoes left by Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane.
He has entered the early Heisman conversation given his impact, and while it is early in the season and USC has not played a legitimate threat yet, his play was truly eye-catching.
How will the Trojans replace Mosley?
If there’s one spot where USC can afford to lose players, it is at receiver. Two super-talented freshmen could step up: Kayden Dixon-Wyatt and Mark Bowman.
Both have two touchdowns apiece, while another talented receiver with limited action, Boobie Feaster, gets the chance to show what he can do.
Luckily, USC only plays Rutgers, arguably one of the worst teams in college football.
With a high-level quarterback in Jayden Maivia, the offense can likely easily piece together enough points to win comfortably.
However, USC plays Oregon next week, and for that game, Mosley may need to play through some pain given what’s at stake.
