Over the past month, USC has reportedly hired several new assistant coaches to its 2026 staff. On Tuesday, the Trojans made several of those hires official.
First up was Mike Ekeler. Ekeler comes to USC from Nebraska, and will join the Trojans as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
Up next was Paul Gonzales, who previously worked with new defensive coordinator Gary Patterson at TCU and was most recently at Baylor. He will serve as USC’s safeties coach and defensive pass game coordinator.
Finally, the Trojans made official the promotion of Skyler Jones to defensive tackles coach. Jones replaces defensive line coach Eric Henderson, who recently departed for a job with the NFL’s Washington Commanders.
While there are still a few minor dominoes left to fall into place, it appears as though USC’s 2026 coaching staff is now mostly set. Believe it or not, the start of spring practice is not all that far away, meaning that we will soon have football to talk about once again.
