Last week, USC defensive line coach Eric Henderson departed for the NFL’s Washington Commanders. With Henderson leaving, the Trojans were suddenly in the market for a new defensive line coach.

That vacancy has now been filled. On Tuesday, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that the Trojans are promoting analyst Skyler Jones to defensive tackles coach. Jones will work together with defensive ends coach Shaun Nua to coach USC’s defensive line.

Jones has worked as an analyst with the Trojans for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he spent a year as an analyst at Oregon. Jones also served as a defensive line coach for four seasons at the FCS level.

In 2022, Jones served as the assistant defensive line coach for the Los Angeles Rams, working under Henderson. His familiarity with Henderson was much of what led him to USC prior to the 2024 season. Now, he is set to take over for his old boss.
