LOS ANGELES — On Tuesday afternoon, the first College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings of the 2025 season were announced, and the USC Trojans found themselves landing at the No.19 position, which ranks them behind teams such as Miami, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt, but ahead of teams like Iowa, Michigan, and Washington.

The 6-2 Trojans find themselves in a peculiar position thus far in the midpoint of the season, as injuries on both sides of the ball and defensive shortcomings early on have dampened what fans and experts expected out of the 2025 Trojans. With all of this in mind, the Trojans have a lot of ground to make up for if they want an opportunity to play in the College Football Playoffs.
Looking ahead to November, this is the most crucial month for the Trojans to make up some ground for a playoff push and could determine the rest of the season, with big matchups at home against Iowa, Northwestern, and UCLA, but their most crucial game this month is a road trip scheduled for November 22 against the Oregon Ducks. If the Trojans can somehow win in Eugene and win out the remainder of their season, Southern California could guarantee itself a playoff selection.
The margin of error heading into November is slim for the Trojans after they suffered tough road losses early on in the season to both Illinois and Notre Dame. As Head Coach Lincoln Riley stated on Trojans live on Monday night, "This is championship November.”
