USC Trojans to lose star freshman WR for multiple games

The USC Trojans have looked great to open the 2026 season, with expectations to finally get over the hump and make it into the College Football Playoff. However, they may be facing some early road bumps.

According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, one of the team's early stars is expected to miss some time going forward. Freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley got banged up last week against Louisiana Tech and will now be sidelined not only this week against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, but potentially for several weeks after that as well.

That includes a highly anticipated Week 4 matchup against the Oregon Ducks, a game that could be season-defining for both teams involved.

Through three games, Mosley is leading the way for receivers in Los Angeles, with 13 catches for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He has been one of the primary targets for QB Jayden Maiava and is one of the main reasons for the Trojans' early success.

Without Mosley in the lineup, USC still has options in the receiving game, with fellow freshman WR Jayden Dixon-Wyatt and freshman TE Mark Bowman also standing as big contributors, but it's fair to question what the loss of Mosley is going to mean, particularly in a big game.

At this point, we're just going to have to wait and see, and hope that Mosley can get back on the field sooner rather than later.
