On Saturday, the USC football team defeated Rutgers 42-35 in Piscataway, New Jersey. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 4-0 on the season and opened Big Ten play 1-0.

On Monday, the conference announced its league honors for Week 3. For his performance against Rutgers, USC kicker Caden Chittenden was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

During the Trojans’ first three games of the season, Chittenden did not attempt a single field goal. Against Rutgers, however, he made both of his kicks. In addition, Chittenden remains perfect on extra points this year.

Chittenden was one of the more notable storylines of fall camp when he somewhat surprisingly beat out Ryon Sayeri—who started at the position last year— for USC’s starting kicker job. It is still early in the year, but thus far, the decision to go with Chittenden appears to be paying off for the Trojans.

USC is back in action this Saturday for a massive battle against Oregon at the Coliseum. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on NBC.
