Utah football’s Moment of Loudness has a new look in the 2026 season

The Utah Utes football program has always been rich with traditions. One of them came by way of separate tragedies.

At the end of the third quarter in Utah’s 66-14 win over Idaho, Rice-Eccles Stadium got dark and loud. The Moment of Loudness, which honors the memories of former Utah players Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe, has evolved into a new era.

Former Utes head football coach Kyle Whittingham used to be the narrator for the tribute video before the stadium erupted. However, the longtime coach was removed entirely after leaving for Michigan.

Former Utah players have taken over the role with a better representation of the current program under Morgan Scalley. This was part of his vision to have alumni take on a bigger role with the Utes. Former Utah and current NFL stars Clark Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Britain Covey and Dalton Kincaid are now featured in the preview video.

One of Utah’s best game day moments is a tribute every week to Jordan and Lowe. The Utes' duo are gone, but were never forgotten in Salt Lake City.

Jordan was a star freshman running back at Utah during the 2020 season. He died at his home in Dallas after accidently shooting himself on Christmas night. He was 19. The news sent shock waves throughout the college football world.

Lowe was a sophomore cornerback who was murdered at a party on campus in Salt Lake City. The stunning news of his death came less than a year after Jordan's incident and rocked the Utes community to the core.

Buk Mawut Buk pleaded guilty to Lowe's murder in 2024. He was sentenced to at least 18 years to life in prison. Police say he fired multiple shots during a heated argument after the football player asked Buk's friends to move their car. Lowe was 21.

Utah's tribute to Jordan and Lowe is outstanding and the former Utes players have taken center stage to make the moment special. Here's the script from the video, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

“This moment has become our tradition. A tradition that honors the lives of Ty Jordan and A-Lowe. Being a Utah man is bigger than one person, one game, or one season. It’s about being 22% better. Better for the guy next to you, better for the guys who came before you, and those who will come after you.

With tradition comes a commitment to be infectiously optimistic. To work hard. To give 22% more and be 22% better. To lift one another. To stand together. To carry forth the legacy of those who helped build this place. And to embrace each day with the same joy, purpose and energy that Ty and Aaron shared with all of us.

So with love in our hearts, we invite you to stand, to smile and let your voices ring from the mountains to the heavens. This is Utah. This is family. This is the Moment of Loudness.”

Scalley and his staff carry the torch for the next generation, but some things will never change in Salt Lake City.
