2028 Skyridge tight end Steeler Wesley was back in Salt Lake City on Saturday for Utah’s matchup with Kansas, and the Utes continue to make a strong impression on him.
“What stood out to me the most is how people treat each other. It is an awesome environment and everybody felt like family,” Wesley said.
Utah’s offense was another big takeaway for Wesley, particularly with how much the Utes utilize their tight ends.
“Their offense is definitely unique. They are very versatile. They line up in formations I’ve never even seen before,” Wesley said.
“They always have at least one TE on the field, which is awesome. They also had two TE touchdowns last night, which is always a good thing.”
With Utah continuing to show how versatile its offense can be, Wesley is taking notice of how he could fit into the system.
The Utes also remain one of the top programs in his recruitment.
“Utah for sure still one of my top schools,” Wesley said.
This was a good weekend for Utah to host recruits on campus. Not only did the Utes pick up another win, but they stayed undefeated near the halfway mark of the regular season. If Wesley's future is in Salt Lake City, he has got a pretty good preview of what to expect.
Utah offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven has done an outstanding job as a play caller this season. After coming over from Utah State, there was no real adjustment period. McGiven saw all the weapons he had to work with and scripted an offensive scheme to fit his playmakers. When you consider how the Utes have traditionally used tight ends, adding a talent like Wesley would be a tremendous plus for the Utes' future recruiting class.
The Utes are in a good position with Wesley by offering him early. The list of schools for the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder keeps growing. Utah is one of 14 programs that are on his radar, including Oregon, BYU, Michigan, Arkansas and Duke. Not a bad offer list spanning from coast to coast.
As it stands now, Wesley is the 23rd-ranked tight end in the country and 11th-best player in Utah for the 2028 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. There's a chance his ranking could start moving up to be a fringe four-star before he makes his commitment.
Utah has no commits in the 2028 class. This isn't uncommon in the slightest, as most programs don't look that far ahead. Being able to secure Wesley's commitment would be a move in the right direction, along with providing McGiven with another playmaker.
