For (probably) the first time, a college football team will let their fans pick the kickoff time for an in-conference game.

UTEP will be allowing fans to vote on the kickoff time for their “Innovation Day” matchup against San Jose State on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the historic Sun Bowl, marking a new era of quirky fan engagement antics in college football.

UTEP fans can decide to vote on their preferred Oct. 17 kickoff time against the Spartans

Fans have four options: 1, 2, 4, and 7 p.m. Mountain Time, and the match will be held at the Sun Bowl. The internet has been quick to pounce on this news for its inherently whimsical nature.

In 2026, UTEP will begin their Mountain West Conference journey, as they joined the conference as a result of the mass exodus of the MWC’s most influential schools in favor of the rebuilt Pac-12.

This marketing ploy will certainly draw eyeballs to UTEP, which now have the task of proving to the MWC that they belong in a league that is trying to prove itself as a competent G6 conference despite recent exits and conference realignment.

But now, it’s up to the people if they want to see a Saturday night, old school WAC rivalry match at the Sun Bowl in October.
