Vanderbilt Loses 4-Star QB Luke Babin to Decommitment After Impressive Junior Season

Clark Lea led the Vanderbilt Commodores to their first double-digit-win season in program history. The Commodores went 10-3 but finished the year with a ReliaQuest Bowl loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Under contract through the 2029 season, Lea continues to build for the future. He’s had several major off-field wins as well, flipping five-star quarterback Jared Curtis from the Georgia Bulldogs. He will hit campus by next season as a member of the 2026 cycle.

Despite that, Vanderbilt has suffered its fair share of unfortunate developments. In fact, the Commodores have recently lost a key member of the 2027 recruiting class.

Quarterback Luke Babin had an impressive junior season at Woodville High School. He completed 179-of-284 passes for 3,063 yards, 40 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 562 yards and seven touchdowns.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 185 pounds, Babin committed to Vanderbilt on Sept. 24. As a four-star recruit, the No. 22 quarterback and the No. 275 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings, he was an exciting addition.

However, he’s since changed his mind. On Wednesday, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong reported that Babin has decommitted from Vanderbilt.

Babin is now the first player Lea and his staff have had decommit in the 2027 recruiting class. With him out of the picture, the group now has just two players, ranking sixth in the SEC and 12th in the nation.

He now has a number of schools to choose from. Babin holds offers from the Texas Tech Red Raiders, TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars and UTSA Roadrunners.
