James Franklin has hit the ground running at Virginia Tech when it comes to the college football recruiting trail. They recently landed Peter Bourque, a four-star quarterback, over Georgia.
Now, Franklin has just won another recruiting battle, landing a 6-foot-5, 332-pound offensive lineman over Kentucky, per Chad Simmons of Rivals.
Kaden Buchanan, an interior offensive lineman, has committed to Virginia Tech. He also had offers from Kentucky and NC State.
“Once I got on campus back in April, I knew that was the place for me,” Buchanan told Rivals. “I spent two days on campus… I got to see practice, sit in on meetings, spend a lot of time with the coaches, and it was a really good experience for me. Being able to get on campus, see what Virginia Tech was like, and get that time with the coaches gave me a different feeling. I left that visit knowing they were the one.”
Buchanan visited Virginia Tech multiple times, dating back before the hiring of James Franklin as the new head coach. Still, Franklin played a major role in the lineman choosing to head to Blacksburg.
“Even in meetings, if a player’s not speaking up loud enough, he’ll constantly tell them to speak up until they get loud enough for him to hear them. I absolutely love that,” Buchanan added .”Virginia Tech has history, and Coach Franklin is going to bring that back.”
Virginia Tech now has the 20th-ranked class in the nation and the third-ranked class in the ACC. That includes four four-star recruits for the Hokies.
