Virginia Tech vs Virginia Prediction: Can the Cavaliers Get to the ACC Championship?
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
Virginia is better than Virginia Tech.
The Hokies are in a period of transition, and it’s all positive with the hiring of James Franklin. They’re not going to a bowl game, they have a whole slew of flaws, and they have won the last four meetings with Virginia and 19 in the last 20.
Virginia is in the ACC Championship with a win. It can be by one or 100, it doesn’t matter, and after so many years of misery and tragedy, no Cavalier fan would care.
Win the next two games, get into the College Football Playoff. After five straight non-winning seasons, it would be an amazing achievement just to get into the tournament.
Virginia can still get into the ACC title game with a loss, but Miami would have to beat Pitt, North Carolina would have to beat NC State, and SMU would have to whiff against Cal.

Why Virginia Tech Will Win
There’s absolutely no pressure whatsoever.
It’s a program in transition, all the pressure in the world is on the other side of the field, and at the first sign of any sort of issue or adversity, the “it’s happening again” will creep in, even though some of the Virginia players weren’t even born yet when this wild win of Hokie runs kicked in.
The Hokies have to grind out the ground game.
They have it in the bag – they were effective on the ground in the wins over NC State and Cal – but they have to be able to bust out just enough big dashes to have control over the game throughout.
The pass rush that hasn’t been there for most of the season has to get to Chandler Morris and keep him from getting comfortable, and …
Why Virginia Will Win
Just relax, keep the chains moving, let the offensive line do the work, and go play in the ACC Championship.
Virginia Tech isn’t generating a lick of pressure in the backfield, and it doesn’t hold up well enough against teams that can do the bare minimum with the ground attack.
Morris and the Cavalier offense are tremendous on third downs. The defense gets off the field in a hurry, and the Hokie lines don’t hold up consistently well.
Virginia Tech beat Wofford from the FCS, Cal, and NC State. Those last two teams relied on their respective young, tremendous passers – both offenses blew off establishing the run. So …
Virginia Tech vs Virginia Prediction, Betting Lines
Virginia Tech is 3-0 when teams don’t get to at least 80 rushing yards, and 0-8 when they do. Only North Carolina held the Cavaliers to under 80 yards on the ground.
Virginia will own the first half, starting with two good, crisp scoring drives, and then the party will be on.
Virginia Tech will score enough to make everyone work, and it’ll put up a few points late for window dressing, but the year’s most stunning story will keep on going.
