Vote! Who should be Register-Guard boys Athlete of the Week?

The fall high school sports season has reached its apex, and athletes throughout the Eugene-Springfield area have continued to shine on the big stage.

This week's nominees for The Register-Guard boys Athlete of the Week are:

  • Jonny Jenkins, Willamette football
  • Corbin Sage, Marist Catholic cross-country
  • Malachi Schoenherr, Sheldon cross-country
  • Yosuke Shibata, South Eugene cross-country
  • Madix Waldrop, Junction City football
  • Trayshawn Wright, Churchill football

Cottage Grove senior David Culbert took 16th place at the Class 4A state championships Nov. 8 with a 5,000-meter personal-best time of 17 minutes, 0.71 seconds at Lane Community College.

Culbert was the top finisher for the Lions, who placed third in the team standings.

North Eugene senior Alder Davis took fourth place at the Class 5A state championships Nov. 8 with a 5,000-meter time of 15:22.81 at Lane Community College.

Springfield sophomore Adrian Estes took eighth place at the Class 5A state championships Nov. 8 with a 5,000-meter time of 15:47.83 at Lane Community College.

Churchill senior quarterback Lucas Gansen went 7-for-10 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns Nov. 14 to lead the Class 5A No. 13 Lancers to a 33-23 state quarterfinal win at No. 5 Thurston.

Gansen also ran for two touchdowns.

Willamette freshman running back Jonny Jenkins ran for 93 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries Nov. 14 in the Class 6A No. 4 Wolverines' 27-20 state quarterfinal loss to No. 5 Central Catholic.

Sheldon junior Malachi Schoenherr was the runner-up at the Class 6A state championships Nov. 8 with a 5,000-meter time of 15:08.1 at Lane Community College.

Junction City junior receiver Madix Waldrop caught two touchdown passes Nov. 14 in the Class 4A No. 8 Tigers' 28-20 state quarterfinal loss to No. 1 Cascade at Scio High School.

Churchill senior receiver Trayshawn Wright caught three passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns Nov. 14 to lead the Class 5A No. 13 Lancers to a 33-23 state quarterfinal win at No. 5 Thurston.

Wright also ran for 77 yards on six carries.
