Looking to cap off a strong first season under new head coach Jake Dickert, the Wake Forest football program is currently locked in a clash with SEC school Mississippi State in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. At halftime, the Demon Deacons lead the Bulldogs 15-9. The big blow? This insane 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Wake Forest football’s Koredell Bartley shared by SportsCenter on X, formerly Twitter.

“100 YARDS TO THE 🏠,” the flagship ESPN show posted. “Wake Forest’s Koredell Bartley really did that 🤯.”
Bartley’s ridiculous return has helped the Wake Forest football program get off to a hot start versus Mississippi State. A win over the SEC school would give the Demon Deacons nine wins in Dickert’s first season. So far, the Wake Forest defense has shut down the Bulldogs’ offense. A touchdown drive led by veteran quarterback Robby Ashford helped add to the ACC school’s lead. Can the Deacons hold on and clinch a 9-4 finish to the campaign?
Wake Forest football looks to cap off strong 2025 season with bowl win
A low-scoring second quarter could lead to an explosive second half in Charlotte. If the Wake Forest football program holds on to this lead, then Dickert will receive a mayo bath post-game. A season-ending victory would wash the taste of a 49-32 defeat to Duke in the regular season out of the Demon Deacons’ mouths.
Heading into 2026, it’s clear that the Wake Forest football program will look to contend for an ACC title. Ashford is in his senior season, so a new signal caller will likely lead the way in Dickert’s second season. A changing conference landscape could lead to plenty of opportunities for the Demon Deacons. Can the Wake Forest football team clinch their first College Football Playoff next fall? If so, the foundations of that team will have been built in 2025.
