In mid-February, the Washington Huskies watched their top target in the 2026 class go elsewhere when five-star guard Dylan Mingo committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels out of a top four that also included Baylor and Penn State.

Now, after the Tar Heels fired head coach Hubert Davis on Tuesday, there's always a chance that the 6-foot-5 product of Long Island Lutheran High School in New York, who is ranked as the nation's No. 5 overall player and No. 2 combo guard by the 247Sports Composite, reopens his recruitment.

If he were to choose to take a step back and reconsider his options, the Huskies would be in a solid spot to reel in Mingo's commitment. Danny Sprinkle's staff was the first to host him on an official visit in early August and developed a strong relationship that was enough to keep Washington at the forefront of the race all the way up until his commitment.

The Nittany Lions might be considered the favorites if he does choose to reopen his recruitment, as his older brother Kayden starred for coach Mike Rhoades during his freshman season, while Baylor has always been a looming threat on the recruiting trail.

However, despite everything, there's always the chance that Mingo chooses to stay true to his commitment if the Tar Heels retain some assistants from Davis' staff, or if he quickly forms a bond with the new head coach.

“I felt like now was the right time,” Mingo said on ESPN's First Take after he committed. “What made it the right time for the decision is seeing Caleb Wilson and Seth Trimble wear the North Carolina blue on their chest with so much pride. It shows the true culture they have there.”
