As the Washington Huskies opened their season with a 24-10 win over the Washington State Cougars in the Apple Cup, a large group of the nation's top-ranked recruits in the 2028 class took in the victory.
Among that group was five-star cornerback Jermaine Cobbins, a product of Springfield High School in Tennessee. The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 19 player and No. 3 corner in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite and has generated interest from all over the country.
He holds 33 offers, with Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, and Ohio State all among the programs in pursuit of his services. As the Huskies continue their push for elite talent in the 2028 class, getting Cobbins out of the South will be a difficult task for Jedd Fisch's coaching staff.
On film, Cobbins displays all the traits that secondary coach John Richardson is looking for as the Huskies continue to emphasize in coverage after recording 41 tackles, 1 for loss, a pass breakup, an interception, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery during his sophomore season.
Cobbins is physical both in coverage and when tackling, bringing the willingness to come down and hit in run support that defensive coordinator Ryan Walters is looking for from his cornerbacks. Combined with high-end long speed, which shows up at both defensive back and when taking snaps at wide receiver, the top-ranked player in Tennessee also has the athleticism to attach himself to opposing pass catchers on the outside and not allow them to generate any sort of separation.
The Huskies added pledges from two cornerbacks in the 2027 class: four-star Censere Gaylord and three-star Maurice Williams, and Washington's coaching staff could make a significant push after his services in the coming months.
