Washington Huskies deemed college football's ultimate chaos team

Starting the season at No. 17 in the preseason AP Top 25, expectations are much higher heading into Jedd Fisch's third season with the Washington Huskies.

Headlined by the return of quarterback Demond Williams Jr. after his brief flirtation with the transfer portal, along with an expected step forward from the defense in its second season under coordinator Ryan Walters, and an infusion of freshman talent from the 2026 class, the Huskies are looking to build on a 9-4 2025 campaign, including a win in the LA Bowl.

With plenty of young talent like Kodi Greene at left tackle and Derek Colman-Brusa and Ramzak Fruean along the defensive line, combined with one of the Big Ten's top quarterbacks and what is expected to be one of the nation's top defenses, Josh Pate deemed the Huskies college football's ultimate chaos team in 2026.

"Got a really good quarterback, and you know what else they have? A schedule where they play a lot of the other big boys," Pate said.

The Huskies have five members of the preseason AP Top 25 on their schedule, with matchups at home against No. 6 Indiana, No. 18 Penn State, and No. 22 Iowa, and trips to No. 2 Oregon and No. 14 USC on the docket.

"There is a world where Washington uses that to thrust themselves into the playoff. There's another world where Washington doesn't quite make the playoff, but they're the reason you don't make the playoff. Either way, Jedd Fisch, who can be the ultimate chaos agent in college football, he starts at No. 17."
