Washington Huskies Lose Another Pair of Starters in Win Against Utah State

SEATTLE — The injury bug has not been kind to the No. 19Washington Huskies through the first two weeks of the season.

UW lost its top two running backs, second-year Quaid Carr and fourth-year Jayden Limar, in its 24-10 win against the Washington State Cougars on Sept. 6.

The Huskies came out the winners against the Utah State Aggies on Saturday by a score of 16-14, but weren't able to get through the win without losing two more key starters.

During the game, fourth-year wide receiver Rashid Williams and fourth-year starting outside cornerback Emmanuel Karnley both exited Saturday's game with unspecified injuries.

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch had no updates on Karnley after the win. As for Williams, the third-year head coach said that he doesn't expect his injury to keep him out long, but didn't rule out him missing time, either.

"Rashid, I don't think it's anything that will (make him) miss substantial time," Fisch said in a postgame news conference Saturday. "But could miss some time. I don't know on Karnley."

Williams, who missed almost all of last season due to two separate injuries, one suffered in a game and one in practice, stayed healthy throughout the offseason, developed a rapport with third-year quarterback Demond Williams Jr. and secured a starting spot on the offense.

Rashid Williams had one catch for 22 yards Saturday before exiting the game. Through the first two weeks of the season, he's reeled in four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.

Karnley transferred to UW this offseason from the Virginia Cavaliers and had a solid showing in his first game in the purple and gold. He registered five tackles (three solo) and had two pass breakups against the Cougars. He didn't register a stat before exiting Saturday's game against the Aggies.

In Karnley's stead, first-year Jeron Jones, who recorded an interception Week 1 against Washington State, took over at outside corner.

The Huskies are in rough shape on the injury front through the first two weeks of the regular season, and the first big tests on their schedule are inching closer.

Washington will close out its nonconference schedule against Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team, the Eastern Washington Eagles, at 4:15 p.m. PT on Sept. 19 at Husky Stadium.

The Huskies will then begin their Big Ten schedule against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at a to-be-determined time Sept. 26 at Husky Stadium, then will play the No. 14 USC Trojans on Oct. 3 on the road in Los Angeles before returning home to play the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes at 6 p.m. PT on Oct. 9.
