Jedd Fisch has made a significant push to get the Washington Huskies a recruiting foothold in his home state of New Jersey since he took over the program, and now he’s after his biggest target yet in the state.
The commitment of four-star 2027 edge rusher Chaz Gray on Tuesday marked the second straight recruiting class where the Huskies were able to reel in a blue-chip pledge from the Garden State, after four-star quarterback Derek Zammit signed with UW in 2026, but 2028 will offer a different challenge in the form of Chaz’s younger brother, five-star linebacker Tahj Gray.
A 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect, also out of St. Joseph Regional, Tahj is ranked as the nation’s No. 24 overall recruit and No. 1 linebacker in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite, and it will be no small feat to pull in his services. He holds 31 offers with Florida, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas all in pursuit of his services alongside linebackers coach Brian Odom and the Huskies.

Outside of its two commits, Washington’s coaching staff proved that it can make a major impact on high-end New Jersey prospects after hosting five-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola on an unofficial visit for Junior Day in March. Although he ultimately committed to Notre Dame, the Huskies quickly worked their way into consideration for his pledge, and with more time to build a relationship with the high-end linebacker, UW could become a major threat to secure his services.
Tahj has already gotten an opportunity to experience UW while accompanying his brother on his official visit, and if Chaz returns for an unofficial visit to take in a gameday atmosphere in the fall, the Huskies would more than likely host both Gray brothers yet again.
The Huskies have also had plenty of success recruiting brothers from the high school ranks under Fisch, earning pledges from Kayden and Kodi Greene, along with Derek and Lowen Colman-Brusa. Now, they’ll have a great opportunity to build a strong relationship with the nation’s top linebacker, who would be a seamless fit both on the inside and outside of defensive coordinator Ryan Walters’ scheme.
