ATLANTA — Georgia football cashed in on a massive play in the first quarter of the SEC Championship game against Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
On an Alabama fourth-and-9, Blake Doud ran out to punt for the Crimson Tide. It didn’t go the way he’d planned though, as Georgia senior wide receiver Cole Speer broke free and blocked the ball.
It bounced, missed by senior running back Cash Jones by a smidge, and landed in redshirt freshman cornerback Maurice Hayes’ hands. Hayes returned it 4 yards to the Alabama 21.
Georgia started the drive with momentum, sophomore running back Nate Fraizer taking it 14 yards up the middle to the Alabama 7-yard line for the first down. Frazier lost a yard on the next play, but senior wide receiver Dillon Bell was able to reclaim ground and push it to the goal line.
From there, redshirt junior quarterback Gunner Stockton found redshirt sophomore running back Roderick Robinson II for the 1-yard touchdown pass and Georgia went up 7-0 with 4:36 remaining on the clock.
It was Robinson’s first touchdown since 2023.
Georgia took a 7-0 lead over Alabama and expanded it to 14-0 in the second quarter.
