One of the biggest offseason transfers in all of high school football saw five-star quarterback Trae Taylor make the move to Millard South (Neb.) for his senior season. The Patriots began their 2026 season on Friday night in a big rivalry tilt at home vs. Millard North.

Taylor broke the ice at the end of the first quarter. The future Nebraska Cornhusker barged his way into the end zone on a goal line sneak for the first touchdown of the night:

As a junior for Carmel Catholic (Ill.), Taylor had a great season, throwing for more than 3,500 yards and 38 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He rushed for another 12 scores and had more than 600 yards on the ground.

The longtime Nebraska commit plans to enroll early in Lincoln next year, so he and his camp opted to move to the Husker State early to be closer to the Big Ten program. That led him to Millard South, which enters the year as the No. 1 team in the state and No. 41 team nationally, per the Rivals Composite Rankings.

The Patriots won a state title last season and were guided by Rivals five-star QB Jett Thomalla, who has since signed with Alabama. Taylor now has the reins and he wants to get his new team back to the top of the mountain this year.

“I want to go to a school where I can still be developed at the high school level.  Having a bunch of coaches that played college ball is huge to me,” Taylor told Rivals back in January when he revealed his intentions to transfer.

“Also they kinda play a national schedule at the beginning of the season. It’s also a place that knows how to handle a high profile QB. My senior year where ever I go I want it to be fun and be one of the guys like at Carmel. This group of guys just had Jett there. So me being there won’t be a big deal to anyone in that community.”

Before arriving at Millard South, Taylor went out to Los Angeles to compete in the illustrious Elite 11 Finals. He was named Rivals’ MVP of the event. Last month, he received his fifth star in the updated Rivals300 rankings, jumping from No. 71 to No. 17 overall. Taylor was also named a Preseason High School All-American by Rivals’ Andy Villamarzo earlier this month.
