Divisive analyst Pat McAfee and the College GameDay crew rocked up to Knoxville for the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers’ Week 4 game against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. During the broadcast before the marquee Week 4 game in Rocky Top, McAfee hinted at the College GameDay crew’s next visit.

Pat McAfee Circles Big Ten Game as Key to GameDay Week 5 Stop

McAfee circled the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes’ Week 4 Big Ten game against the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines as the key to the crew’s next stop on college football’s vast circuit.

“Iowa-Michigan, GameDay implications,” McAfee hinted. “Iowa hasn’t had a GameDay in like 100 years. If they were to beat Michigan, next week we would certainly be traveling to Iowa City. Now to do that, they have to go into the Big House, beat a very talented Michigan team that maybe haven’t figured out Whittingham’s system, just kind of getting in there. Big Ten has huge implications today as well.”

The last time the Hawkeyes hosted the College GameDay show was September 30, 2006, when they were blown out 38-17 by the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes.

College GameDay covered the Cy-Hawk Trophy game against the Iowa State Cyclones in 2019 and 2021, but both appearances were in Ames, featuring celebrity guest pickers Eric Church and Ashton Kutcher. The No. 7 Buckeyes will visit Kinnick Stadium for the Week 5 clash against the Hawkeyes.
The Hawkeyes are flying this season and have already beaten Northern Illinois, Iowa State, and Northern Iowa. On the other hand, the Wolverines controversially squeezed past the Western Michigan Broncos in Week 1 and the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 2 before pummelling the UTEP Miners last weekend.
This season, the College GameDay crew has been in Baton Rouge for the Week 1 opener between the Clemson Tigers and the LSU Tigers. Then they went to Austin for the Longhorns’ blockbuster thriller against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 2.

Last week, the crew was in Oxford for LSU coach Lane Kiffin’s much-anticipated return to play against the high-flying Ole Miss Rebels.

The decision to go to Rocky Top was difficult for the College GameDay crew, given the several marquee matchups on the Week 4 slate. The No. 4 Rebels will travel to Gainesville to face the No. 21 Florida Gators; the No. 10 LSU will host the No. 23 Texas A&M Aggies; the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs will welcome the Oklahoma Sooners, and the No. 19 Missouri Tigers will travel to Starkville to face the No. 24 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
