Webb is hiring former renowned Maryville football coach George Quarles as its new coach, the school posted on social media.

“We are excited to announce George Quarles as our new head football coach,” the school said on X. “Coach Quarles has a track record of excellence as a head coach, having won 11 state championships and being the fastest head coach in the nation’s history to reach 200 wins. He is a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, and has served as both a head and assistant coach at the Division 1 level. We look forward to the impact Coach Quarles will have on our football program and community.”

Quarles was one of the winningest high school football coaches in the country at Maryville, going 250-16 in his 18 season at the helm. He won 11 state championships and had separate winning streaks of 74 games from 2004-2008 and 44 games from 2013-2015.

He left the high school realm in 2016 as an associate coach at Furman before becoming the head coach at East Tennessee State in 2021. ETSU fired Quarles after two seasons.

Most recently, Quarles had been the tight end’s coach with Austin Peay football.

Previous Webb coach Don Mahoney stepped down after three years with the program. The Spartans went 1-9 in 2025.
