So, there’s really no better way to say this.
It’s going to be wet on Saturday. Very wet. And possibly worse depending on what this tropical system does.
And if the forecast really takes a turn…could the game be postponed? This is not a plea to not have the game played, that’s for consult with Tuscaloosa-area EMA experts to determine. But the fact of it is that we may very well see this game played out in torrential rain.
As of now, there are no plans to postpone….but if the current timeline teaches us anything, it’s never a good idea to rule out anything. Someone did, after all, approved a TV ad campaign for Liberty Bibberty.
It would not be the first time for this between Georgia and Alabama. One thing that made the 2015 debacle in Athens even worse is that Georgia was embarrassed…and fans endured feeling cold, wet and miserable in the process. But it certainly changes the perception of this game. If the field conditions are borderline unplayable, does the result get considered different if one of these teams is borderline for a seed selection by the CFP? Who knows, since that group of kindmakers makes up the rules as they go along…
When you are a 310-pounder like Elijah Griffin, you are not expected to back down from a challenge. That’s especially true going into Saturday’s game against Alabama. Will the game be physical? Likely yes. Is Georgia welcoming the challenge? That’s also a yes. To hear Griffin talk up this week, it may be shaping up to be an old-fashioned bruiser, and the expected weather only adds to that.
The folks at the Banner-Herald had a video visit with Georgia placekicker Peyton Woodring that could be relevant – as he discussed kicking in bad weather.
Speaking of games in Alabama, a salute to one of the greatest names in Georgia football lore – Andre “Pulpwood” Smith.
Go Dawgs!
