Week 2 Prediction: LSU Tigers vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

After making a statement in its season opener, LSU will look to carry that momentum into Week 2 when the Tigers welcome Louisiana Tech to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night.
LSU opened the Lane Kiffin era in impressive fashion, dominating Clemson 51-10 in front of a packed crowd in Baton Rouge. The Tigers overcame an early interception and quickly took control, leading 31-3 at halftime before cruising to the 41-point victory.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt was at the center of the offensive explosion in his LSU debut, accounting for 343 yards of total offense, throwing for 230 yards while adding 113 yards on the ground and four total touchdowns.
This week, LSU will face a very different challenge.
Louisiana Tech opened their season Sept. 5 against Northwestern State and will enter the matchup 1-0 after putting together one of the most dominant offensive performances in program history. The Bulldogs opened their season with an 80-6 victory over Northwestern State, scoring 10 touchdowns in the win.
The Bulldogs also had a strong 2025 season, finishing 7-5 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA, earning a bowl berth as they closed out the season on a high note, defeating Missouri State 42-30 before beating Coastal Carolina 23-14 in the Independence Bowl.
For LSU, Saturday’s game is about more than simply adding another win to the record. It is an opportunity to continue developing under Kiffin and build on the confidence created by the Clemson victory. But the biggest challenge could be maintaining the same intensity against Louisiana Tech that LSU brought against Clemson.
There is also plenty of history between the two programs. LSU owns a commanding 20-2 advantage in the all-time series, including a 23-7 victory over the Bulldogs in their most recent meeting on September 6, 2025.
I view this as a must-win game for LSU, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be pretty. The real objective is for the Tigers to come out healthy, avoid an upset and continue building momentum heading into the Ole Miss game, where they will face a very hostile environment.
For LSU, the formula is simple: Take care of business, avoid costly mistakes and continue building toward the more demanding portion of the schedule. The Tigers don’t need to make a statement Saturday — they simply need to get the job done.
The Tigers will face off against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game streaming on SEC Network+.
MY PREDICTION: LSU 42 – LA TECH 17
LSU is currently favorited 32.5-points over LA Tech with the U/O at 55.5-points.
