Yahoo analysts Eric Froton and Nick Bromberg share their bold predictions for college fantasy football in Week 6.
Nico Iamaleava ascends in Eugene 🌟
UCLA has experienced the biggest leap in competence from one year to another since Curt Cignetti changed the entire cultural landscape of Indiana. The Bruins offense has been extremely ground-based so far, with their backfield shouldering most of the offensive load. The Bruins are running the ball 65% of the time on standard downs (19th in FBS) while ranking first in rushing success rate (58%) and yards per carry (7.5), and are throwing to their running backs 24.5% of the time (18th), leaving Nico to be more of a game manager than playmaker.
They will not have the luxury of dictating the pace against Oregon, and will have to rely on their former five-star quarterback to keep up with Oregon's offensive attack. The Ducks can be beaten over the top, ranking 129th in pass plays of 20+ yards and dead last nationally in QBR. I expect Iamaleava to be heavily utilized and approach the 30-fantasy-point mark in a competitive back-and-forth scoring exposition. — Eric Froton
Jeffrey Overton Jr. to the moon 🚀
Overton has taken over the RB1 role for the Hokies in dominant fashion, averaging 5.9 YPC to deposed starter Marcellous Hawkins' meager 4.1 YPC. In fact, Overton is averaging more yards AFTER contact (4.5) than Hawkins is averaging altogether. Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin is looking for more dynamism out of his backfield, as the team currently ranks 116th in yards per successful rush (7.4) and 115th in yards before contact (1.7). Cal is arguably the perfect defense to "get right" against, as HC Tosh Lupoi's much-maligned group ranks 126th in explosive play rate allowed while giving up a generous 187 rushing yards per game (121st in FBS). I think Overton erupts for two touchdowns and 20+ points against a sputtering Cal run defense. — Froton
Don't start anyone from Alabama or Georgia 🌧️
I realize it sounds a bit sacrilegious to tell you to avoid starting anyone from the marquee game of the weekend, but we could be in for an absolute slog in Tuscaloosa because of Hurricane Isaias. Assuming the game is played in a downpour, each passing offense could be seriously slowed. And while these are two of the best teams in the country, they also don't have anyone who you absolutely can't sit in college fantasy football in a given week, either. There are plenty of good options, either on your bench or available off the waiver wire. — Nick Bromberg
Ja'Kobi Jackson will find the end zone again 🙌
Ohio State's running back situation isn't the greatest for fantasy purposes. It's effective for the Buckeyes. It's just not effective for you, if you're someone who drafted Bo Jackson early. Through five games, Bo leads the team with 66 carries for 353 yards, but he has just two touchdowns. Ja'Kobi has become the team's short-yardage and goal-line back with 45 carries for 278 yards and six touchdowns. Ja'Kobi has scored in all five of the Buckeyes' games, and with Maryland up next, he's going to score again on Saturday. — Bromberg
