We're down to less than 10 teams in every Colorado high school football classification now.
The CHSAA playoffs roll on, as Classes 2A and below reach the semifinal stage, while it's quarterfinal time for 3A and above.
There are some big Northern Colorado matchups this week, highlighted by a much-anticipated 2A state championship rematch up in Wellington and 3A No. 1 Windsor hosting a high-powered offense.
Here's what this week's playoff schedule looks like, including the top Fort Collins-area and regional football games to watch.
Fort Collins-area football playoff schedule (Nov. 22)
- 2A semifinals: No. 3 The Classical Academy at No. 2 Wellington (1 p.m.)
- 3A quarterfinals: No. 9 Pueblo South at No. 1 Windsor (1 p.m.)
Local Game of the Week: No. 3 The Classical Academy at No. 2 Wellington
The game everybody pointed to when the 2A brackets were released is finally here.
No. 2 Wellington. No. 3 TCA. A state-championship rematch. A chance for the Eagles to earn redemption after last year's controversial defeat.
Now, Wellington gets the Titans on home turf in a matchup of 2A's last unbeatens.
This will be an intense game and should feature some points, with both offenses averaging over 40 points per game.
Can the Eagles get a dose of payback en route to the ultimate title redemption? Will TCA rise up and keep defending its state championship?
- When: Nov. 22, 1 p.m.
- Where: Wellington Middle-High School
NoCo Game of the Week: No. 9 Pueblo South at No. 1 Windsor
Nobody has been able to score on Windsor this season, as 3A's top team fields a defense allowing less than 5 points per game.
That will be put to perhaps its biggest test yet this season. No. 9 Pueblo South enters fresh off a 50-42 win at Conifer while putting up 40+ points in its last six games behind QB Caeden Herrera (2,578 yards, 30 TDs).
But the Wizards have homefield advantage and the biggest, baddest lines on both sides of the ball, plus a ballhawking secondary and playmakers on offense in Mason Moore and Adrian Czyszczon.
Can the Colts make this a track meet? Or will Windsor dominate the trenches and move one step closer to a "home" state championship game in CSU's Canvas Stadium?
- When: Nov. 22, 1 p.m.
- Where: H.J. Dudley Stadium at Windsor High School
