HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND – MARCH 23: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore speaks during a roundtable on March 23, 2026 in Hagerstown, Maryland.

The Maryland governor says conversations about racial inequities should be based on facts and that leaders should not avoid difficult discussions.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore says he will not shy away from discussing issues affecting Black Americans. During a recent interview, Moore argued that measurable data makes those conversations necessary, even if they are politically uncomfortable.

Speaking on “Clock It with Symone & Eugene,” Moore explained why he refuses to “hedge” when conversations turn to race. A clip shared by The Jasmine Brand highlighted the governor’s belief that facts, not politics, should guide the discussion. “Let’s talk numbers real quick,” Moore said before pointing to data showing long-standing disparities affecting Black communities.

Moore argued that conversations about race should be rooted in measurable outcomes, including wealth, education, health care and economic opportunity. He said acknowledging those disparities is not about creating division, but about addressing real challenges with real solutions. The Democratic governor also said leaders should not avoid difficult conversations simply because they may be politically unpopular. Instead, he believes public officials have a responsibility to confront issues backed by evidence.

“Let’s talk data. We’re going to talk about the fact that this country has lost $16 trillion in GDP over the past two decades because of the racial wealth gap,” Moore said around the 43-minute mark. “That’s not 16 trillion of a group. That’s GDP. It’s highlighting that bigotry is expensive. It is costing this country. It is costing this country when you do not have an inclusive economy.”

The interview quickly gained traction online.

Many viewers praised Moore for speaking directly about racial inequities and refusing to dilute his message.

One commenter wrote, “I have to give credit where it’s due. You can’t argue with real numbers.”

Another added, “I don’t live in Maryland but he has my support forever. He’s always stood on business and never budged.”

Others urged the governor to consider a future presidential run, with comments such as “Wes Moore for President” and “My Governor.”

The discussion reflects Moore’s long-standing emphasis on equity and opportunity during his time in office. His latest remarks reinforce his view that leaders should confront disparities directly rather than avoid politically sensitive conversations.
