New Heisman odds have arrived with Week 12 of the college football season behind us. Jumping into the top five this week was Georgia football starting quarterback Gunner Stockton after another stellar performance in a 35-10 win against No. 17 ranked Texas.
In that SEC clash, the junior quarterback had 229 passing yards along with four touchdowns and an interception while only missing on five passes. He also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown.
The all around performance, plus the win, helped increase Stockton’s Heisman odds to +2500, good enough for the fifth-highest odds, according to FanDuel.
While Stockton isn’t the betting favorite, a distinction held by Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, he still has received high praise from media personalities. One of them being ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who believes that the junior is consistently proving he’s worthy of Heisman consideration.
“I’m not big on like, ‘He had a good game, give him the Heisman,’ but the Heisman is so wide open,” Herbstreit said while on the call for Georgia‘s game vs. Texas. “And it just feels like last few years it comes down to, who gets hot at the end of the year? We saw, today, some great performances, and Gunner Stockton has stepped up; Jeremiyah Love at Notre Dame. I’m just saying, this kid, he’s played so well in these big games.”
