In-state foes coming off eye-catching blowouts face off Saturday in Baton Rouge as No. 8 LSU hosts Louisiana Tech.
Lane Kiffin's much-anticipated Tigers debut lived up to the hype and then some, as LSU mauled Clemson 51-10 last week after waiting out a weather delay. While it's fair to say the college football world already has its popcorn out anticipating Kiffin's return to Oxford to face Ole Miss next weekend, the Tigers can't overlook the Bulldogs.
LA Tech obliterated Northwestern State 80-6 in its opener, scoring 42 points in the second quarter alone. Blake Baker hit Jalen Mickens for a 75-yard score on Tech's first play from scrimmage and the Bulldogs went on to outgain the Demons 528-129.
Of course, LSU will present a far bigger challenge Saturday, and the Tigers figure to be flying after last week's all-around performance. LSU racked up a school-record 38 first downs against Clemson while limiting the other Tigers to just six plays in LSU territory. QB Sam Leavitt had 230 yards through the air and 113 on the ground in his Baton Rouge debut after transferring from Arizona State.
The Death Valley crowd will be hoping for more along those lines Saturday night. Here's when and where to tune in.
