What Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said about LSU's historic beating

LSU came out of the gate swinging. The Tigers scored 17 points in the first quarter, to build out a 31-3 halftime lead. Swinney was understandably frustrated by his team’s effort.

“We got our a***s kicked,” Swinney said, per ESPN.

Clemson’s loss was the largest margin of defeat in Swinney’s career, Bleacher Report posted to X. The Clemson team struggled to move the ball all day, and finished the contest with just 40 rushing yards.

LSU had a whopping 644 yards of offense. It was the debut of new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, who made a powerful statement to open his tenure.

Even Kiffin was surprised at his team’s success on offense.

“I didn’t expect their offense to be that dysfunctional,” Kiffin said after the game. “Our [scout] team scored more than they did against us.”

Swinney stated that he didn’t do enough to prepare his team for the game.

“We didn’t do football stuff well enough,” Swinney said. “I’m not sitting around judging other people on what their resources are or what they can do. It is what it is. It’s our job to be the best we can be and we were not that tonight with what we have. It’s my job to get us better.”

Clemson football must immediately regroup. The team next plays Georgia Southern on Saturday.
