Colorado football coach Deion Sanders spoke highly of Kansas State football and head coach Chris Klieman ahead of the Buffaloes‘ season-finale in Manhattan, on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The Wildcats and Buffaloes will kick off at 11 a.m. The game will be televised on FS1.
“Coach Klieman, love him,” Sanders said. “Both of us come from small beginnings and we are here. He’s a phenomenal coach, phenomenal man, phenomenal person, and great leader. You understand his accolades. I love his demeanor, man, and his composure. I love the way he does what he does, and he’s been consistent for quite some time.”
Colorado enters the game 3-8 overall and 1-7 in Big 12 action. The Buffaloes won’t qualify for a bowl game this season, while Kansas State needs to win the game to become bowl-eligible. Sportsbooks on Tuesday, Nov. 25, had Kansas State as a 17 1/2 point favorite to win the game.
The Wildcats are a week removed from challenging No. 12 Utah, only to come up short 51-47, despite rushing for a program-record 472 yards, while Joe Jackson ran for 293 of them.
“The team is strong, and they ran the heck out of the football last week,” Sanders said. “They gave up some things defensively, but they’re a really good team; they get after it. They take the understanding and the personality of their coach, and they compete, man. They compete, and they have a quarterback who can get it done. We saw that last year.”
Sanders laughed, remembering that Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson ran in a touchdown in K-State’s 31-28 win over the Buffaloes in 2024, noting that Johnson celebrated with one of Primetime’s iconic dances. Johnson finished the game 15-for-23 for 224 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
“That was hilarious,” Sanders said. “I like it when kids do that, it’s funny to me. They have a respectful team, a great group of guys, and they definitely have a bowl riding on it, so we’re trying to keep them from that. We’re trying to play spoiler. But other than that, I love (Klieman) to death, man. I really do, and I love what he’s accomplished over there.”
