Joe Burrow broke his silence on the drama between LSU football and its former Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, who sent a cease-and-desist letter to the athletic department asking the Tigers to stop using his name, image, and likeness.
The letter, sent to LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry by Daniels' representatives, became public after head coach Lane Kiffin announced that cornerback DJ Pickett will wear No. 5, which the current Washington Commanders' quarterback wore during his time in Baton Rouge. Burrow, who led the Tigers to the national championship and won the Heisman in 2019, kept his comments short.
"I don't know enough about the situation to have any thoughts," Burrow, current quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, said.
LSU allegedly told Daniels it wouldn't offer No. 5 to any future players but then promised the number to Pickett during his recruitment. He wore a different number last year when he earned freshman All-American status, then Kiffin allowed him to wear it in fall camp.
Social media users compared Burrow and Daniels when they donned the purple and gold. No LSU player has worn No. 9 since Burrow did.
"They told me they wouldn't use it again."
