STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football coach Jeff Lebby did not provide new information regarding injured wide receiver Brenen Thompson and safety Isaac Smith for the Egg Bowl.

“I do not (have an update),” Lebby said at his Nov. 23 news conference. “We’ll let the injury report speak to it.”

The Bulldogs (5-6, 1-6 SEC) are hosting No. 6 Ole Miss (10-1, 6-1) in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28 (11 a.m., ABC).

However, Thompson, MSU’s top wide receiver who got injured in the first half against Missouri on Nov. 15, was made available to reporters after Lebby. Mississippi State does not typically make injured players available for interviews.

“I took off running on the big chunk play I had and kind of tweaked some stuff in my groin, but I’m back and rolling,” Thompson said Nov. 23.

Smith didn’t play in the 49-27 loss to Missouri, but did travel with the team and had his right foot in a boot.

The initial SEC availability report will be released Nov. 25.

Thompson has 868 receiving yards, second in the SEC, with six receiving touchdowns. Smith is fourth on the team with 51 tackles in nine games.

Tony Mitchell started in Smith’s place and had four tackles and a tackle for loss.
